Roanoke Rolls Past Randolph, 8-1, on Wednesday
The Roanoke Maroons improved to 7-2, 3-1 in ODAC play, after defeating the Randolph Wildcats, 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Lynchburg. The loss drops Randolph back to .500 at 4-4, 1-3 in the ODAC.

The Wildcats' only win of the afternoon came at number one singles, where Patricia Verdezoto bested Laura Dodson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) in the closest match of the contest. Verdezoto took the tiebreaker in the first set 9-7, giving her the 7-6 victory to open the match. In the second set, Dodson again forced her counterpart, but could not come back, falling 7-5. It is just the second loss of the season for the Roanoke, VA native.

The Maroons swept the doubles competition, with the closest match in the third position, where Lauren Marszal (Meriden, CT, Francis T. Maloney) and Brianna Carroll (Niagara Falls, NY, Nardin Academy) teamed up for the 8-4 victory.

Roanoke will play Radford University on the road, Thursday afternoon. It will be the first home match of the year for the Highlanders, who are off to their best start in school history with an 11-4 record. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
