The Roanoke Maroons overpowered the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins on Wednesday in a match played in Lexington, VA, 8-1. The Maroons' record improved to 11-4, 5-2 in ODAC play, while the Marlins fall to 3-11, 2-4 in conference play. Roanoke's 11 wins are the most since the 2007 season, when the team finished 11-6.

Roanoke swept the singles competition, winning each of the four matches that were played in two sets. Laura Dodson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) won her 10th match of the year, while Corbin Leitch (Richmond, VA, Steward School) picked up her 11th win of the season. Haley Goodes (Salem, VA, Glenvar ) earned her first win in the number three spot, bringing her overall record to 7-7. In the number four position, Lauren Marszal (Meriden, CT, Francis T. Maloney) improved to 9-2 with her 6-1, 6-1 win. Brianna Carroll (Niagara Falls, NY, Nardin Academy) and Courtney Robb (Wytheville, VA, George Wythe) were lined up in the number five and number six spots, respectively, but did not have opponents to face.

In doubles play, Dodson and Leitch teamed up for their 12th win, seventh against ODAC competition, as they earned the 8-0 shutout. Goodes and Carroll needed a tiebreaker to earn their victory over Hannah Rice and Rachel Calkins, 9-8. Robb and Marszal were lined up in the third spot, but had no competition to face.

The Maroons will play two matches on Saturday, both on the road. At 11:00 AM, they will take on Randolph Macon, in Ashland, VA, then travel to Fredericksburg to face #14 Mary Washington at 3:30.
