The Roanoke College women's tennis team went 1-1 over the weekend as they defeated Virginia Wesleyan 9-0 in ODAC action, but fell 8-1 to Salisbury, who is regionally ranked #16.

On Saturday, the Maroons faced off in ODAC competition against Virginia Wesleyan University. The doubles competition proved to be difficult as Jennifer Antoszyk and Corbin Leitch defeated Lauren Broker and Sara Yousif, 9-7 at #1 doubles. In the #2 position, Laura Dodson and Briell Smith defeated Mia Proctor and Tori Ryherd, 8-1. In another tough match, Kristin McDowell and Brie Carroll won 8-5 over Hannah Parent and Stephanie Bittner in #3 doubles.

Singles proved to go a lot more smoothly for the Maroons, as Antoszyk (#1), Leitch (#2), and Smith (#4) won their matches by the score of 8-0. Laura Dodson also was victorious in #3 singles, defeating Bittner 8-2. McDowell and Kaity Diskerud each captured wins in #5 and #6 singles, respectively.

On Sunday morning, the Maroons ran into the Seahawks, who are ranked #16 in the region. Roanoke put up a fight in the doubles competition, as Antoszyk and Leitch fell 9-8 (7-5) in a very close #1 doubles match. Dodson and Smith played a close match at #2 as well, falling to Elaina Iosue and Roxanne Alban, 8-6. Brianna Carroll and McDowell also fell in #3 doubles, 8-1.

The Maroons lone win in singles competition came from #22 Jennifer Antoszyk, who defeated Jillian Poppe, 6-3; 6-4 in #1 singles. Laura Dodson battled to a 6-3; 6-4 loss to Elaina Iosue in #3 singles as well.

The Maroons return to action on Friday, March 15^th as they host Shenandoah University at the Elizabeth Campus Courts. That contest is scheduled for a 3:30 start.
