The women's tennis team's 13 wins ties a school record for wins in a season, a mark they achieved in 2012 as well. The Maroons look for their 14th win as they compete in the ODAC Tournament semifinals, against Hollins on Saturday, April 27th. Earlier this season, the Maroons defeated Hollins 8-1, picking up a win over Hollins for the first time since 2004.
The Maroons got an early jump on the WildCats as they swept the doubles portion of the competition. Laura Dodson and Briell Smith won at the #1 position, 8-2. In the #2 doubles spot, Corbin Leitch and Kristin McDowell were victorious by the score of 8-0. Brie Carroll and Haley Goodes won at #3 doubles in a very close matchup, 8-6.
The Maroons only needed two singles victories to put away the match. Briell Smith won at #3 singles, defeating Anne Culpepper 6-1; 6-0. Haley Goodes picked up the final victory at #5 singles, defeating Emmalyn Snead, 6-1; 6-0, clinching the victory for the Maroons.
The Maroons play again on Saturday, April 27th as they play in the ODAC semifinals against Hollins University. That match, being hosted at Virginia Wesleyan will begin at 3:00 PM.
