HILTON HEAD, SC – The Roanoke College women's tennis team went 2-0 on Monday in the first games played over Spring Break in Hilton Head.  The Maroons defeated Misericordia and Elizabethtown, both by the score of 7-2.
 
In the first match of the day, the #19 ranked Maroons took on #14 regionally ranked Elizabethtown College.  Jennifer Antoszyk and Briell Smith topped Evangelista and Pellegrino 8-5 in #1 doubles.  Emily Henderson and Reed Kegel won at #2 doubles by the score of 9-7.  Roanoke's Emma Barker and Kristen McDowell fell in #3 doubles by the close score of 8-5 to Lauren Berry and Nicole Snitzer.
 
In singles, Antoszyk swept Evangelista 6-0, 6-0 in #1 singles.  Smith bested Adriana Scotto in the #2 spot 3-6, 6-2, 10-7.  Henderson was victorious in #3 action  over Pellegrino 6-3, 6-1.  Reed Kegel, Roanoke's #4 position for the day, won over Sarah Calabro, 7-5, 6-3.  Haley Goodes won Roanoke's final singles match over Madison McCall 6-4, 7-5.
 
In the second match of the day, Roanoke took on Misericordia.  Henderson and Kegel led the charge with an 8-4 win over Cassie Foy and Brea Phillips in #1 doubles, 8-4.  In #2 doubles, McDowell and Barker bested Meghan Meyers and Bridgette Boyle 8-2.  Alexandra Martin and Kaitlyn Diskerud completed the doubles sweep with a win an 8-2 win over Kiana Gough and Carly Young.
 
In singles action, Haley Goodes won in #2 singles, besting Phillips 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.  Dey won at #3 singles over Meghan Meyers, 6-3, 6-2.  Diskerud won at the #4 spot with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Boyle.  Roanoke's final singles win came from Martin in the #5 position, with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
 
The Maroons return to action Wednesday, March 5^th as they take on St. John Fisher and Ashford University.  The first match is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
