Women's Tennis Rallies To 6-3 Win over Wilkes
HILTON HEAD, SC – The Roanoke College women's tennis team fought to an exciting, delayed comeback on Tuesday to defeat Wilkes University, 6-3.
 
With the win, the #19 regionally ranked Maroons have opened the season with a record of 5-0.
 
The contest started out with singles action, with the Maroons trailing 3-2 after the first five matches had finished.  Briell Smith won at #2 singles over Kendra Croker, 6-4, 6-1.  Emily Henderson topped Taylor Offmann at #3 singles by the score of 6-1, 6-1.  With the Maroons trailing by one match in singles, Jennifer Antoszyk battled in a tight, three-set match, winning over Ally Kristofco 6-7, 6-4, 10-7.  Antoszyk's win tied the match up at 3-3 between the two teams, when timing caused the doubles portion to be held off until 8:00 PM.
 
In doubles action, the Maroons found new life, sweeping Wilkes 3-0.  Antoszyk and Smith defeated Kristofco and Anastasia English at #1 doubles, 8-1.  Henderson and Reed Kegel won at #2 doubles, 8-4 over Croker and Hoffmann.  Emma Barker and Kristen McDowell finished off #3 doubles in a close 8-5 match over Olivia Hewison and Alanna Denauski.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, March 5th, as they take on St. John Fisher and Ashford University.  The first match is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
