SWEET BRIAR – The Roanoke College women's tennis team remains undefeated after winning 8-1 over Sweet Briar College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Friday evening.  The Maroons now have a record of 7-0, while the Vixens have a record of 2-5.
 
Roanoke's 7-0 start is the best start to a season in program history.  It is also the best start for any head coach in their first year at the helm of a program, with Daniel Ragsdale coaching his first season at Roanoke.  The Maroons currently have a #19 ranking in the ITA Atlantic South Region.
 
Roanoke jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles action.  Emily Henderson and Reed Kegel were victorious at #1 doubles, defeating the team of Caitlin Delmas and Glory Bowman 8-6.  In just as tough a match, Kristen McDowell and Emma Barker won at #2 doubles over Allie Raifsnider and Ashley Fletcher by the same 8-6 tally.  Alexandra Martin and Kaitlyn Diskerud swept Gina Rutledge and Georgia Kikland 8-0 at #3 doubles.
 
Sweet Briar's lone match win came at #1 singles, where Briell Smith and Caitlin Delmas battled in three sets, but Delmas picked up the win 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).  Roanoke swept the remainder of the contest.  Henderson topped Bowman 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles.  In the both the #3 and #6 singles matches, Reed Kegel and Kristen McDowell blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 to win their matches.  Barker defeated Fletcher at #4 singles, 6-1, 6-1.  Finally, Haley Goodes bested Gina Rutledge, 6-1 6-0 at #5 singles.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, March 22^nd as they take on Emory & Henry on the road in ODAC action.  That contest is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
