Women's Tennis Takes First Division III/ODAC Loss To Washington and Lee
SALEM – The Roanoke College women's tennis team took its first loss to an NCAA Division III opponent on Monday night, falling to #20 nationally ranked Washington and Lee 9-0. The Maroons, who are ranked #16 in the Atlantic South Region sit with a record of 13-2; 9-1 in the ODAC, while the Generals have a record of 13-2; 11-0 in ODAC play.

Roanoke had its best start in program history, winning the first eight matches to start the season. It also marked the best start by any Roanoke Coach in their first year at the helm, a record posted by new coach Daniel Ragsdale.

Washington and Lee started with a sweep of doubles action. Jenny Antoszyk and Briell Smith fell in #1 doubles to Sonja Meighan and Patricia Kirkland 8-2. Emily Henderson and Reed Kegel also lost 8-2 to Meghan Buell and Chelsea Mixon at #2 doubles.

Smith put up a tough match against Buell at #2 singles, falling 6-4; 6-2 to the General. Henderson pulled two games off of Brooke Donnelly in #3 singles, 6-2; 6-0, while Emma Barker won three games against Mary E. Shutley, 6-1; 6-2.

The Maroons return to action for its regular season finale, on Thursday, facing off against Bridgewater College on the road. That match is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
