Women's Tennis Goes 1-2 at Season Opening CNU Quad Match
NEWPORT NEWS – The Roanoke College women's tennis team went 1-2 over the weekend during the CNU Quad Matches at the Centre Court Racquet Club.  The Maroons, who are ranked #17 in the ITA Atlantic South Region, were defeated against two regionally-ranked teams in #15 Christopher Newport and #8 Methodist University.
 
Roanoke defeated ODAC opponent Sweet Briar 8-1 during the CNU Quad Matches.  The #1 doubles team of Emily Henderson and Reed Kegel blanked AJ Lukanuski and Gina Rutledge, 8-0.  Haley Goodes and Tracy Kile won at #2 doubles 8-2 over Caitlin Delmas and Samantha Yew.  Alexandra Martin and Catherine Lee defeated Anna Colvin and Adowa Sika 8-2 at the #3 position.
 
Roanoke also picked up wins at the #2 and -#6 singles positions.  Reed Kegel defeated Lukanaski 6-1, 6-0 at #2 singles.  Goodes picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rutledge at #3 singles.  Lee bested Colvin 6-2, 6-2 at #4 singles, while Kile defeated Yew 6-0, 6-1 at the #5 position.  Alexandra Martin topped things off for the Maroons with a win at #6 singles over Baylee Worth 6-2, 6-0, completing the 8-1 win over Sweet Briar.  Emily Henderson fell in a hard-fought contest (6-4, 6-4) to Caitlin Delmas in #1 singles.  Delmas is ranked #23 in the Atlantic South Regional singles rankings.
 
Roanoke fought valiantly against #8 Methodist during the quad matches, taking a 7-2 loss to the Monarchs. The #1 doubles team of Emily Henderson and Reed Kegel battled to an 8-5 loss against Isabella Graf and Sam Munze.  The #2 team of Kristen McDowell and Emma Barker fell to Emily Talley and Abigail Randolph in a tight 9-8 match.  Roanoke also fell at #3 doubles as Briell Smith and Lydia Dey took on Davi Barbour and Riley Zopp to a 9-7 loss. The Maroons picked up wins in singles against Methodist, as Kaitlyn Diskerud topped Vatrice Williams 6-1, 6-3 in #6 singles.  Briell Smith also won at #3 singles 6-3, 6-4 over Abigail Randolph.
 
The Maroons ran into a tough #15 Christopher Newport team, falling 8-0 to the host team.  Reed Kegel and Emily Henderson battled at #1 doubles, falling 8-4 to the team of McKinney Harwood and Kate Huck.  Smith fell at #4 singles in a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Meili Konell.  Haley Goodes also fought to a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Claire Dockrill at #5 singles.
 
The Maroons return to action on Sunday, February 22nd as they travel to Lexington to take on Washington & Lee.  That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
