SALEM – The Roanoke College women's tennis team defeated Randolph-Macon 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons now have a record of 14-5, with an 8-1 mark in ODAC play, while the Yellow Jackets are 12-2, 8-1 in the ODAC.
 
The Maroons are on a four match win streak, and have only lost one match in the ODAC regular season.  The Yellow Jackets were on an eight match win streak before falling to Roanoke.  The Maroons also handed Randolph-Macon its first loss in ODAC play this season, as the Yellow Jackets have two matches remaining this season.
 
Roanoke had a tough outing in the top three singles positions, as the Maroons fell in the first three matches in two sets.  Emily Henderson and Briell Smith won at the #1 doubles position, defeating Angelina Sportelli and Kelsie Grice, 8-3.  Kristen McDowell and Emma Barker also won at #2 doubles, topping Melissa Tomlin and Molly Jesseman 8-3.  Roanoke's Lydia Dey and Catherine Lee fell in a tight #3 doubles match 8-6.
 
But it was up to the #4-#6 singles to win this match for the Maroons.  McDowell made quick work in #6 singles against Hannah Trueblood, winning 6-1, 6-1.  Lee ran into a tough three setter against Sarah Hinson, winning 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 in #5 singles.  Then Kaitlyn Diskerud came through in #4 singles in the clutch, defeating Jesseman 6-0, 6-7, 6-3 to secure the victory for the Maroons.
 
Roanoke will return to action on Sunday, April 19^th as they host Emory & Henry at the Elizabeth Campus Courts in the final match of the regular season.  That contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
