SALEM – The Roanoke College women's tennis team defeated The University of Virginia-Wise, 8-1 on Saturday.

The Maroons swept the doubles competition to start the day.  Emily Henderson and Reed Kegel topped Daria Tyschenko and Bailey Christoforatos 8-4 and #1 singles.  Briell Smith and Kat Lee won #2 doubles by defeating Haley Thacker and Marti Gay by the score of 8-6.  #3 doubles was played to a tight 9-8 (7-5) finish as Kristen Mcdowell and Emma Barker topped Mary Jo Stallard and Junetta Nuckles for the doubles sweep.

Briell Smith took on Haley Thacker in #1 singles, winning 6-2, 4-6, 10-4.  Emily Henderson also picked up a win at #2 singles, defeating Christoforatos 6-5, 6-2.  Roanoke's #3-5 singles all battled to tough three set victories.  Reed Kegel won at #3 singles, defeating Gay 4-6, 6-1, 10-4.  Haley Goodes played Stollard to a 6-4, 5-7, 10-3 win.  Emma Barker rounded out the wins for Roanoke by defeating Rose Bennett 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 at #5 singles.

The Maroons return to action on October 11^th as they host King College.
