The Lead: The women's tennis team played host to Randolph-Macon on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets raced out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles play. Roanoke looked to come back in the individual matches but the rally fell just short as the two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals would split the six singles matches, giving Macon a 5-4 win.

Highlights:

  • Halle Fernstrum and Olivia Maccluen found themselves in a 7-7 tie at #2 doubles. The duo would win the tie-breaker, 9-7, to earn a point for the Maroons as they trailed 2-1 after the three doubles matches.
  • At the top singles spot, Jessica Kennedy picked up the win, 6-4 and 6-2.
  • Fernstrum would add another win on the afternoon when she posted a 6-2 and 6-1 victory at #3.
  • Lucy Collins dropped her first set, 6-3, but rallied to take the second, 6-2, and force a third set. In the finale, Collins rolled to a 6-0 win.

Up next: Roanoke College is scheduled to host Shenandoah University on Wednesday. The match with the Hornets will be played at the EC Tennis Complex starting at 3pm.
