The Lead: The Roanoke women made the trip to the eastern shore when they took on Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Marlins swept the doubles matches for a 3-0 advantage. In singles play, Roanoke was able to win at the #4 spot but fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 8-1, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
Women's Highlights:
- Lucy Collins and Halle Fernstrum fell to the team of Christine Zalameda and Anna Rogers, 8-7, at the #1 spot.
- The #2 doubles tandem of Julia Bassett and Sophie Bartholomaus came up just short, 8-6.
- In singles play, Bartholomaus won her first set, 7-5, before falling by the same score to force a 10-point tiebreaker. In the extra set, Bartholomaus won a hard fought 14-12 decision to take the match.
- Bassett would also go to a tiebreaker in her individual match (#3). Bassett took the opener 6-4 before falling 6-1 to go to the third set tiebreaker. In the third, Bassett would come up just short, 10-8.
What's Next: The women make the trip to Winchester to face Shenandoah on Tuesday in a rescheduled match against the Hornets that is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
