The Short Story: Roanoke fell 8-1 to Averett in a home ODAC contest on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Averett jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a trio of doubles victories. Keira Gunning and Paula Rhysen dispatched Halle Fernstrum and Julia Bassett 8-3 at the top spot, while Brenda Poulakidas and Daniela Poulakidas beat Lia Streibich and Victoria Rios 8-6 at #2, and Amelie Brune and Elisa Battermann topped Zane Maiden and Emma Johnson 8-2 at #3.
- Streibich collected a straight-sets win for the Maroons at #2 singles, taking down Rhysen 6-4, 6-1.
- But the Cougars rolled to the match victory by triumphing in the other five singles contests: Gunning over Fernstrum at #1 (6-0, 6-4), Brenda Poulakidas against Bassett at #3 (6-2, 6-1), Daniela Poulakidas over Rios at #4 (6-0, 6-0), Bettermann against Maiden at #5 (6-1, 6-0), and Franka Keil over Maddie Morrell at #6 (6-1, 6-0).
