Big Second-Half, 32 Points From Caldwell Sends RC Past H-SC 78-74

The Lead: Roanoke rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit to top Hamdpen-Sydney 78-74 behind a career-high 32 points from John Caldwell.

How it Happened:

  • Caldwell also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, was 9-of-15 from the floor, including 6-of-8 from beyond the three-point line. Caleb Jordan had 15 points and six rebounds, while C.J. Miles chipped in with 12 points as well.
  • H-SC was led by JaVonte Reddick who had 12 points. Logan Samuels and Josh Katowitz each tallied 11 points, while Jake Duncan had 10 points. Katowitz had eight rebounds for the Tigers.
  • RC shot 46.9% from the floor, making 23-of-49 shots on the night. The Maroons were also 21-of-25 from the foul line and made 11 three-pointers.
  • With the score 11-10 RC, the Maroons went on a 13-2 run, taking a 24-12 lead on a Miles three-pointer.
  • Roanoke was up 29-17 with just over 10 minutes to go in the first-half only to see H-SC close the half with a 27-4 run which was capped by a buzzer beating three-pointer from Katowitz that sent the teams to the intermission with H-SC up 44-33.
  • The Tigers came out and extended their lead to 49-36 when a Caldwell three-pointer sparked what would prove to be 22-5 run that Miles capped with a bucket to give RC a 58-54 lead with eight minutes to play.
  • After a Malik Crute three-pointer cut the RC lead to 66-63 with under three minutes to play, Eli Sumpter drained a three-pointer on the Maroons ensuing possession to make it 69-63.
  • Roanoke then made 9-of-10 free-throws in the final 1:34 to seal the win.
