Maroons Notch Fourth Straight Win with 77-66 ODAC Victory Over EMU

The Lead: John Fitchett scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Joey Miller scored 20 points as Roanoke notched its fourth straight win as it topped Eastern Mennonite 77-66.

How it Happened

  • Miller was 5-of-8 from the field as he tied his season-high in points.  Brandon Harrell came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points, while Eli Sumpter chipped in with 11.
  • Eastern Mennonite got 19 points from RaShawn Latimer and 12 points from Jerome Jones. Isaiah Harris-Winn grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds as the Royals held a slight 50-48 edge on the glass for the game.
  • Roanoke shot 40.4% for the game, making 24-of-60 shots on the afternoon. The Maroon defense held EMU to 26.8% (22-of-82) shooting for the game and allowed the Royals to make just 9-of-47 (19.1%) shots from beyond the three-point line. Eastern Mennonite made just seven field goals in the decisive second-half.
  • A pair of Miller free-throws made the score 28-28 with 3:22 to go in the first-half. EMU would then score nine of the next 11 points, taking a 37-30 lead on a Jones three-pointer with 1:48 to go in the half.
  • RC got a bucket from Caleb Jordan with two seconds remaining to send the teams to the locker room with EMU up 39-35.
  • The Maroons came out in the second half with a 16-3 run, pushing in front 51-42 following a pair of free-throws from Fitchett five minutes in.
  • EMU scored seven unanswered points to make it 51-49 before RC answered with nine straight points of its own, opening up a 60-49 lead when Harrell drained a three with 9:19 to play.
  • The Royals were able to make it 62-59 following a Jones layup with just under four minutes to play, but Roanoke used an 8-2 spurt that was capped by a Sumpter three-pointer that made it 70-61 with 2:18 to play.
