The Lead: Roanoke hit a school record 18 three-pointers in knocking off No. 22 Guilford 72-46 Wednesday evening in Salem.

How it Happened:

  • The 18 three-pointers tops the RC record of 17 that was set twice a season ago. The 46 points allowed by the Maroons is lowest total surrendered since they allowed 48 against Swarthmore in January of 2012.
  • Guilford came into the game ranked No. 22 in the latest D3hoops.com poll and No. 1 in the NCAA South Regional rankings that were released on Wednesday.
  • Roanoke was led by John Fitchett who scored 24 points in just 26 minutes of action which vaulted the senior past the 1,000 point plateau for his career.
  • Fitchett was joined in double-figures by Caleb Jordan with 15 points and Eli Sumpter with 11. Guilford got 14 points from Alston Thompson.
  • RC was 27-of-55 (49.1%) on the night including 18-of-41 from three. Guilford was 15-of-56 from the floor for a 26.8 shooting percentage.
  • Both teams started off shooting slow with RC holding a 9-4 lead following a Josh Freund layup eight minutes into the game.
  • Freund's basket sparked an 11-2 run that was capped by a Caleb Jordan three-pointer that made it 18-6 RC with 9:12 to go in the half.
  • Guilford made the score 23-16 with 5:22 to go in the opening stanza before RC used an 8-2 spurt to take a 31-18 lead into the locker room.
  • After a Thompson bucket to open the half made the score 31-20, RC went on a 14-1 run pushing out to a 45-21 advantage following a Fitchett dunk.
  • Roanoke's lead would hit 35 with five minutes to go in the game when a Jordan jumper made it 70-35.
