Touted as the "finest center forward to play at Roanoke College." A four-year letterman in soccer, Archer also played golf for three years.

Played on three state championship teams during Roanoke’s glory years in soccer and earned the distinction of All-South All-American from 1966-68.

A prolific scorer, Archer amassed 50 career goals and still holds the school record for goals in a single-game with six. 

He led the Mason-Dixon Conference in scoring in 1968 with 18 goals, earning a position on the All-Conference team.  Made All-Mason Dixon Conference in 1967 as well.
