A three-time All-American selection, Fleming completed his Roanoke College men's lacrosse playing career with 531 saves and upon his graduation ranked third on the college's all-time list. Fleming had perhaps the finest single season by a Roanoke College goalie during the 1992 season, making a team-record 238 saves and leading the Maroons to the national championship game. He then led the team in saves in each of the next two seasons.
He was a First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection following both the 1992 and 1994 seasons and in 1992, 1993, and 1994 was an All-American selection.
