The 1993 ODAC Player of the Year was also a two-time NSCAA All-South Region selection in 1992-93. He was a three-time First-Team All-ODAC selection after earning second-team honors as a freshman in 1990. Following his senior year, Fonder earned the Jeffery Childs Willis Co-MVP award with fellow senior captain Nelson Vasquez and was named the 1994 Roanoke College Male Athlete of the Year.
On the hardwood, Fonder was a three-year letterman for Page Moir’s men’s basketball team. The point guard finished his career with 369 assists, third on the all-time list and his 119 steals ranks him 12th all-time. As a senior, Fonder’s 158 assists set a new school-record. As a junior in 1992-93, Fonder helped lead the Maroons to their first 20-win season in eight years. The following year, Roanoke went 26-2 and captured the ODAC Championship along with an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time in seven years.
In 1993, Fonder was named the National Field Player of the Year by the Intercollegiate Soccer Association of America. That same year, the National Soccer Association of America (NSCAA) Second-Team All-American lead the Maroons to their best record and finish in school-history with a 20-4 mark. The Maroons won the 1993 ODAC Championship and earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. They advanced to the National Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, falling in four overtimes to eventual-champion UC-San Diego.
After graduation, Fonder played four years in the United Soccer League and the National Professional Soccer League for the Roanoke Riverdawgs and the Cleveland Force, respectively.
