William Garland

William Garland

A member of the Monogram Club, Garland was also President of the General Athletic Association in addition to being an outstanding two-sport athlete at Roanoke College.

In basketball, Garland was an All-State and All-Conference performer.  In baseball, he starred for three years as a pitcher and outfielder and captained both sports in 1934. 

A scholar-athlete in the truest sense of the word, he received the award for the monogram winner with the highest academic average in 1934.

Following graduation, he dedicated his life to public education.
