Noted for his speed - Ringstaff was called "One of the greatest running backs that has carried the pigskin for Roanoke...".

He made the Virginia All-State team in 1933 and '34 and was on "Pop" White’s All-time Roanoke College football team.

Ringstaff also played basketball and baseball while at Roanoke College and was freshman backfield coach for Roanoke during the 1935 season.

Ringstaff has spent time as a teacher and head coach of football, basketball, and baseball at Tazewell and Giles County high schools.
