Rowley is one of only seven Roanoke College men’s lacrosse players to be named an All-American in three different seasons. He earned Second Team honors as a sophomore on the 1978 national championship squad, Third Team honors as a junior in 1979, and Honorable Mention accolades as a senior in 1980. 

A midfielder on the 1978 national championship team, Rowley tallied a career-high 20 goals, including three in the national championship victory over Hobart. He also had seven of his 19 career assists that season, a number he matched the following season. In each of his final two seasons as a Maroon, Rowley scored 17 goals and ended his career with 59 goals and 78 points.
