One of Roanoke College’s basketball "Immortals" as he distinguished himself at the guard position of the "Five Smart Boys."  They went 40-5 in a two-year span which gained the program national attention as they played in the National Invitational Tournament, which was bigger than the NCAA Tournament at that time.

President of Monogram Club in 1938, Lieb was named First-team All-State from 1937-39 and selected to the All-American basketball team at National Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament in 1938.
