When he graduated from Roanoke in the spring of 1993, McGahren was the eighth all-time leading scorer in the history of the men's lacrosse program. In his four-year career, McGahren scored 80 goals and handed out 63 assists for 143 points. In 1993, McGahren led the Maroons in assists and that season was not only a First Team All-ODAC selection, but also earned the second of his two All-American accolades. A season prior, McGahren was a First Team All-American selection on the Roanoke team that made a trip to the NCAA national championship team. 

A midfielder and Katonah, NY native, McGahren was the team's leading scorer in 1992, recording 63 points on 38 goals and 25 assists. After leading the team to the national championship game and being named an All-American in 1993, McGahren was named the Roanoke Male Athlete of the Year. McGahren was a part of a Maroon squad that went 38-21, in his four-year career, and won two ODAC championships.
