Played center on the "Five Smart Boys." They went 40-5 in a two-year span which gained the program national attention as they played in the National Invitational Tournament, which was bigger than the NCAA Tournament at that time.
Won All-State recognition in 1938 and 1939. On basketball court agility, exceptional defense and board control won the plaudits of his teammates. His team play was instrumental in the success of this basketball squad which reached national recognition and honors.
Was also a member of the Monogram Club.
