Smith, considered the model of consistency in racing and training is one of the Maroons most outstanding athletes. Smith still holds four individual school records outdoors and five indoors. Her school and ODAC records for the 3000 meter outdoors, 5000 meter indoors and outdoors may never be broken. Smith placed second at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in 2001 as a senior with a time of 17:06. In the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, she became the school’s first national champion since 1978, winning the 10,000 meters.  Smith has continued to run after college. In 2008 at the U.S. Olympic Trials, she placed 24th.
