The Lead: The Roanoke College golf team traveled to Winchester to play in the 2021 Shenandoah Spring Invitational. The one day, 36-hole event was played at the Winchester Country Club to par 71. After the first round the Maroons would find themselves third in a group of seven teams separated by just eight strokes. As the weather improved so did the RC scores. Roanoke would improve by 14 strokes to finish sixth in the 12 team field.

How it Happened:

  • The tournament would start early in the morning with windy, up to 25 MPH gusts, and cold conditions.
  • Round one would see Michael Donnelly pace the Maroons with a nine-over 80. The freshman would come back in the afternoon to shoot a 78, finishing 12th in the 60 golfer field.
  • Will Clary wrapped up the first round with an 81 before dropping five strokes in round two with a five over 76, earning a top 10 finish.
  • After posting an opening round 85, senior Evan Diebus regrouped with a four over 75, tied for third lowest round of the tournament.

Up next: Up next for the Maroons is a one-day, 18-hole, event hosted by Shenandoah University at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. The tournament will serve as a tune-up for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships that will be held on the course in late April.
