Cuny Finishes Atop Port City Invitational Field

The Basics:

The Lead: Roanoke College got the spring season started with a trip to Savannah to compete in the 16-team, Port City Invitational as part of the Savannah Invitational. The Maroons would finish 6th after posting a three-round total of 932, just missing a top five finish by one stroke. LaGrange would win the event with Hampden-Sydney finishing runner-up.

How it Happened:

Day 1:

  • The first day would feature 36-holes and RC would post rounds of 314 and 309.
  • During the first 18-holes, Palmer Cuny led the way with a 3-over par 74. Fellow sophomore TJ Whelan and freshman Brett Chodos would card 6-over par 77's. Justin Grenier rounded out the scoring for the Maroons.
  • Cuny would continue to pace Roanoke with a 1-over 72 in the second round. Whelan posted a 78 while Chodos carded a 79 with Grenier finishing at 80.

Day 2:

  • The second day saw Cuny continue his stellar play wrapping up play with a 73. At 6-over par for the tournament, the Pittsburgh native would finish atop the leaderboard for the first time in his young collegiate career. Cuny would share top honors with fellow ODAC golfer Nick Rubino (HSC).
  • Whelan matched his fellow second year teammate with a 2-over par 73, finishing 13th in the 92-golfer field.
  • Chodos finished up with an 81 while Sean Furlong carded a final round 82 for the 6th place Maroons.

Up Next: Roanoke will travel to Jekyll Island to compete in the premiere tournament in the region, the Jekyll Island Collegiate, Mach 16-19.
