Roanoke Wraps Up Fall In Greensboro

The Basics:

Event: 2022 O'Briant-Jensen Memorial

Place: 12th/18

The Lead: The Roanoke golf team competed in the 18-team, O'Briant-Jensen Memorial golf tournament. The 36-hole, two-day event was hosted by Guilford College and played on the par 71, 6755 layout at The Cardinal in Greensboro. The Maroons would take aim at five of the top 10 and nine of the top 40 teams in the country. 

How it Happened:

Day 1:

  • Roanoke would find themselves in a tie for 12th after posting an opening round 308. 
  • Seniors Will Clary and Justin Grenier would pace the Maroons in the opening round. Clary shot a three-over par 74 while Grenier would birdie the final hole to post a four-over 75.
  • TJ Whelan had it going early and finished with a 79 while freshman Brett Chodos rounded out the day one scoring with an 80.

Day 2:

  • The second round would see Roanoke rise to ninth place as they started the round by playing the first six holes at even par. As the tournament closed, the Maroons would find themselves in solo 12th.
  • Sophomore Palmer Cuny would post RC's best round of the event with a 2-over par 73. Fellow All-ODAC sophomore Whelan would card a 76.
  • Clary and Grenier would post identical 80's as Roanoke would place a trio of golfers in the top 50 of a field that featured 25 of the top 100 DIII golfers in the nation. 

Up Next: Roanoke wrapped up the fall portion of the season and will await a trip to Savannah in early March to restart the 2022-23 campaign.
