Baker helped Roanoke to its first ODAC Championship and NCAA Division III Tournament bid in 1981. He was one of the "Four Horseman" at Roanoke who played in both the Div. II and Div. III National Tournaments.
A 1981 ODAC Player of the Year and Virginia Small College Player of the Year, Baker was selected to the South Atlantic All-Tournament, First-Team Regional All-American and Second-Team All-American.
He played in all 108 games during his career compiling an 88-20 record and was instrumental in the resurgence of the basketball program at Roanoke, finishing his career with a record of 74-9 and two NCAA Tournament Appearances. He finished his career with 1,248 career points, then just the 12th player to reach the 1,000 point plateau.
