Caterson was very active on campus during his four years at Roanoke. He was named President of the Monogram Club in 1959 and 1960 in addition to claiming the Outstanding Athlete Award in 1960.
A three-time co-captain of the swimming team, Caterson set school and Mason-Dixon Conference records in the 60-yard freestyle, 50-freestyle, 220 and 400 freestyle swimming events.
Since his graduation, he has been active in numerous activities involving athletic activities for young people.
