During her career at Roanoke, Huson participated in varsity field hockey and basketball.  In intramurals, she competed in badminton, tennis, swimming, volleyball, and basketball.

President of the Women’s Athletic Association while at Roanoke, she was awarded the "Annie Terrill Bushnell" prize for leadership and loyalty to the college, President of the Phi Mu Sorority and Xi Theta Chi Fraternity and Vice president of Cardinal Key. 

In the area of sports, she established youth programs for girls in her community and was the first woman elected to her local sports association.
