Arguably the best player in women's basketball history, Highfill is the all-time leading scorer in team history playing from 1975-79.

In her four-year career with the Maroons, Highfill accumulated 2,028 points, which still is 575 points better than any other player in team history and the first woman in the state to eclipse over 2,000 points. Highfill twice earned All-American honors, in 1978 and 1979, and is one of just two players to earn the honor twice.

In addition to the career scoring mark, Highfill holds no less than eight other school records, including points in a game (49), career scoring average (28.6), field goals made (789), and free throws made (450). During the 1976-77 season, Highfill established a school record, which stands to this day, for points in one season with 562.  She held the state scoring title all four years.

She was named the 1975-76 RC Female Athlete of the Year along with the 1978-79 Roanoke Athletic Club's College Basketball Player of the Year.  It was the first time a woman received this award.  In 1979, Highfill was the first woman to be named College Division Player of the Year in Virginia.  Her #14 Jersey was retired.
