A pioneer in athletics in the 1900's at Roanoke, Honaker excelled in football and was a gifted baseball player and track runner. Gifted in academics, he also excelled in debating, receiving awards for his talents.
After Roanoke, Honaker coached at four colleges before settling at Maryville College, where he coached for 38 years. He was honored by the Maryville College Athletic Hall of Fame and by the Tennessee State Hall of Fame.
